DESCRIPTION: Lewisia rediviva, commonly called bitter root, is a
plant in the
Purslane family. Despite its name, it was so highly prized by many
Native American
tribes that a sack of cleaned roots could be exchanged for a good
horse. It was also
considered a suitable wedding gift.
